The CIRC would like to welcome a new faculty affiliate, Dr. Asuka Eguchi who recently received the American Heart Association Career Development Award. Dr. Asuka Eguchi works in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics at UCI and received the Career Development Award from the American Heart Association to design a dual vector delivery system for the treatment of Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Her lab uses patient-derived induced pluripotent stem cells to compare healthy and diseased states in human cardiomyocytes. The goal of this project is to develop a gene therapy that addresses cardiac complications for Duchenne patients.
