Aiyanna Adams is an undergraduate researcher in the Chesler lab for the summer of 2022 as part of the CIRC’s Cardiovascular Health Disparities Initiative funded by the Edwards Lifesciences Foundation. She is seeking to understand why heart rate variability predicts heart health in European Americans but not African Americans. Under the mentorship of Ph.D. student and CARE trainee Christopher Lechuga, and in collaboration with Psychological Science Assistant Professor DeWayne Williams, Aiyanna will compute heart rate variability in subjects with hypertension and correlate these results with other hemodynamic indicators of heart health.
During the regular academic year, Aiyanna is a student of Biomedical Engineering at Arizona State University in Tempe, AZ. She is a member of NSBE and works as a Hostess at Red Robin. In her free time, she enjoys reading, painting, and hanging out with her friends. After graduation, Aiyanna is planning to pursue graduate studies in Biomedical Engineering.
